Green, Digital and Competitive Index In Europe – The ranking

Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (SMEs) have never been more important. They count for 99% of European businesses and employ more than 100 million people. SMEs are essential to attaining the ambitious goals for growth, full employment and net-zero-carbon emissions in Europe.

To track progress, the Lisbon Council has developed a unique three pillar indicator: The Green, Digital and Competitive SME Index :

Pillar I: How digital are a country’s SMEs? How much use are SMEs making use of cutting edge technologies to reach more customers and deliver more value?

Pillar II: How green? Europe won’t reach its ambitious climate targets without greening a sector that accounts for 53% of the economy. What’s more, customers are demanding it – and new regulations are requiring it. How well are a countries SMEs able to deliver?

Pillar III: How competitive? We measure this by looking at company growth and success in new markets – both within and outside of the European Union.

You can check the rankings, explore country profiles, and help us improve the indicators.
