Until recently, if you lost your job you could claim unemployment insurance for up to 99 weeks according to the state government. Lately, however, unemployment insurance has undergone some drastic changes for the worse as more Americans struggle to find jobs. Many states will lose 20 weeks’ worth of benefits and claimants will be faced with stricter rules in order to retain their federal benefits.
This month at least 12 states will lose eligibility for a federal program that will result in up to 20 weeks of benefits subtracted from the amount originally available to someone who’s unemployed. This reduction was a result of a Republican/Democrat compromise–Republicans wanted more weeks slashed, while Democrats wanted to retain the federal programs untouched…
