The fact that CS Wind is having trouble finding 100 skilled workers for its Windsor plant – and will have to look outside the region – might seem incongruous given that we have high unemployment and people eager to work.
But it’s also a reflection of something that is happening in other parts of the country: In a still struggling economy, you can have significant worker shortages.
“The reason we’ve had to do that (go outside of the area) is there is a bit of a skilled trades shortage with respect to welders – welders with specific experience working with heavy and large fabrications,” Patrick Persichilli, director of production support for CS Wind’s Windsor turbine tower plant, told The Star this week…
