Women are hit hardest by the financial squeeze and worry more than men about paying the bills.
They spend almost 11 hours a month thinking about money problems while men ponder for only 9½ hours, says to a new study by consumer champions Which?
Women also feel less optimistic about their finances and the wider economy.
Nearly half of all men (45%) describe their finances as good, compared to only a third of women.
And only one in five women expect their finances to improve over the next year compared to a quarter of men.
Women are also more pessimistic about the future with only 15% expecting the economy to improve in the next 12 months, compared to 27% of men.
And 38 per cent are cutting spending on food, socialising and household goods, against 31 per cent of men.
