The Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare is working with a multi-sectoral taskforce to develop a new National Employment Policy.
The new policy will place special emphasis on ‘green jobs’ and how to link these with other elements for employment creation. “A Green Economy is an area where economic growth and employment creation is possible and where poverty reduction can gain special momentum,” was the message yesterday by the Minister of Labour and Social Welfare, Doreen Sioka, when she launched a national workshop on the topic in Windhoek.
The workshop is taking place under the theme: “Unlocking the employment creation potential of the emerging Green Economy in Namibia.” The green economy, which is a concept that has emerged on the international agenda in recent decades, combines environmental considerations, such as the reduction of Carbon Dioxide (CO2) emissions and pollution, as well as the adaptation to climate change with people-centered solutions to the challenges of economic development.
