The European Commission decided to improve EURES, the EU job search network in order to increase mobility of workers across Member States and contribute to the establishment of a true European labour market. The new EURES website will facilitate the contact between jobseekers and employers looking for particular skills, focus on sectors and occupations with skills shortages and support targeted mobility schemes for young people.
As EU Commissioner for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion László Andor stated: “Improving jobseekers’ mobility between Member States can be part of the solution to the current unacceptably high levels of unemployment. The improved EURES network will aim to help people who are ready to move to another country to identify where suitable job vacancies exist and to help employers to find suitably skilled workers. We now call on all Member States to get ready to implement the reform”.
Despite Europe facing high unemployment levels, there are many vacancies particularly in high growth areas such as information and communications technologies and the green economy. The improved EURES will match jobseekers and job-changers to current job vacancies in order to respond directly to specific economic needs. It will also give employers better access to a variety of candidates, making the search for specific skills much easier…
