DR,Challenging elected ofilfcais in the media seems to have little effect because they are propped up by the resources of the special interests that you rail against every day. You can fill an hour a day banging the drum with economists, journalists and commentators to drive home the point, but to what end? Until the representatives of the corporations in Washington are voted out of office in favor of representatives of the people, nothing will change. Incumbents have a huge advantage based on name recognition and the lack of credibility of ‘unknown’ challengers. You have a platform. You can use it to support challengers willing to run against incumbents from the corporatocracy. Economists, journalists and commentators can help you make the argument, but we need candidates to drive real change. By providing a platform for challengers to establish name recognition and present their views, you can help them gain credibility and give them a real chance against the Democratic and Republican political machines. Start Now.
Posted by Olivier | June 19, 2012, 6:59 amReading biographies of Teddy and FDR, one is stucrk by how fearlessly they challenged the coporate oligarchies of their times. Does anyone see today any individual politician or party that even wants to attempt such courageous action? As you regularly point out on your program, the unbridled influence of money seems to have overcome any such inclinations. I voted for the president in the primaries and general election and had hope that he would follow, at least in some part, in the Roosevelt (both) traditions. That has turned out to be a sick joke. Perhaps when Democrats finally acknowledge that our leader is a Democrat in name only, and the Republicans readmit even a single progressive into their ranks, we can start to pursue the change you write of, Dylan. Or maybe a third party will emerge that finally becomes a true force instead of a forgotten footnote. If we don’t all drown in the flood of corporate cash before that.
