The National Bureau of Statistics, NBS, has disclosed that the nation’s unemployment rate has jumped to 7.5% in the first quarter of the year 2015 compared to 6.4% in the fourth quarter of 2014.
This was contained in a report made available to journalists over the weekend.
NBS explained that the number of unemployed persons in the labor force increased by 18.43% to 861,110 persons between Q4 2014 and Q1 2015 while the number of underemployed in the labour force declined by 6.46%, thereby reducing the underemployment rate to 16.6% in the period under review compared to 17.9% in the previous quarter.
