Temporary workers in Switzerland are now significantly better qualified and paid compared with four years, according to Swiss Staffing, the Swiss Federation of Staffing Companies.
The survey, conducted by private research institution gfs-Zurich on behalf of Swiss Staffing, interviewed 1,000 people who had worked in a temporary capacity over the past year. The study was based on a random sample drawn from six major staffing firms that achieved more than a quarter of their annual revenue from temporary staffing.
According to Swiss Staffing, revenue from the Swiss temporary staffing industry increased from CHF 5.2 billion (€4.9 billion) in 2010 to CHF 6.5 billion (€6.1 billion) in 2014.
More than 300,000 work in a temporary or interim capacity in Switzerland every year. The average length of contract is 13 months with half of all temporary workers being Swiss nationals.
Almost 70% of temporary workers are classified as skilled workers, with the proportion of unskilled workers decreasing from 24% in 2010 to just 14% in 2014.
