US / 56% consider their current job “not on course at all”

More than Half of Respondents to a Recent Monster.com Poll Believe Adjustments are Required to Find Jobs that Better Align with Their Career Vision

A U.S. poll conducted by Monster.com, the worldwide leader in successfully connecting people to job opportunities and flagship brand of Monster Worldwide, Inc. (NYSE:MWW), reveals that more than half of respondents (56%) consider their current job “not on course at all” with their career visions. The poll results also show that only 6% of respondents’ current jobs are “totally on course” with their career visions.

“Creating and following your career vision are both difficult and dynamic tasks,” said Mary Ellen Slayter, Career Advice Expert for Monster.com. “Some very lucky people know exactly where they’d like to be later in life; but many of us amend our goals as we learn about our industries and ourselves. Taking a detour from your chosen career path can serve as the catalyst for fulfilling career goals. What’s important is that you turn what could be an ‘off course’ position into an opportunity to expand your area of expertise.”

“In fact, skills attained outside the commonly accepted boundaries of your field can enhance your resume and distinguish you from the competition. Grow from your ‘off course’ position, but don’t let it sidetrack you from realizing your career vision: keep your resume updated, and keep an eye out for new jobs that would return you to your ideal career path.”

Monster asked the following question to U.S. visitors on its site, “How well does your current job meet your long-term course for your career vision? On a scale of 1-5 with 1 being Totally On Course and 5 being Totally Off Course.” The poll, which received over 1,300 responses, resulted in the following findings:

— 6% of respondents ranked their current job “1: Totally on course”

— 5% of respondents ranked their current job “2: Very much on course”

— 14% of respondents ranked their current job “3: Somewhat on course”

— 19% of respondents ranked their current job “4: Slightly on course”

— 56% of respondents ranked their current job “5: Not on course at all”.
