Premier Robert Ghiz was among the premiers who took a united stand against the new Canada Job Grant during the Council of the Federation meetings, saying it would jeopardize current training programs and put excess funding pressure on provinces.
“The Canada Job Grant does not appear to work for us,” Ghiz said in a statement to The Guardian Thursday.
Canada’s premiers took a united stand against the new Canada Job Grant during their Council of the Federation meetings in Niagara-on-the-Lake Thursday, saying it would jeopardize current training programs and force provinces come up with hundreds of millions in additional funding.
“Premiers reiterated that federal funding agreements or initiatives such as the proposed Canada Job Grant must allow jurisdictions to opt out, with full compensation,” said a joint statement issued by the premiers Thursday.
