I was interviewed with seven other people who were friendly and had a very diverse spectrum of experience. It wasn’t a heavy or even competitive ambiance, it felt more like an amicable round table, and I tried to speak just as much as everyone else.
How did I prepare for it? I did some research on the employer like I always do, and even though it didn’t come up, I knew what subjects were best to approach when pitching stories to them. I also had some words to describe myself in mind. I tried to seem friendly but determined, and mention as much news as I possibly could (of course, a huge part of preparing for an interview for a reporter position is reading the news).
All in all, I just tried to be myself, with a pinch of confidence. Though I’ve not heard of these interviews being used in the UK (have you?) , you will often be interviewed by several people at the same time – by a panel. So practicing your people skills is paramount, just so you can seem at ease about your career prospects and the position you are up for. I’ve already got a reply saying I made the database, so all I need to do is wait for an opportunity now.
