A large-scale job fair organized by the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) opened yesterday in Taipei, with job seekers swarming to the fair to vie for over 10,000 job vacancies offered by 158 companies, according to the MOEA.
Many job seekers and those looking to change jobs showed up at the fair yesterday morning to try their luck. Large firms from a range of fields were among the companies participating, including Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. and McDonald’s.
Of the job vacancies available at the fair, those in the service sector accounted for the largest portion at 52 percent. The electronics and information sector accounted for 25 percent while the daily necessities sector was 12 percent and the metal and electrical machinery sector was 10 percent.
A top executive at the 1111 Job Bank said that as local companies usually release more job vacancies after the Chinese New Year holiday, yesterday’s job fair can be considered the largest job fair before next February’s Chinese New Year.
A recent survey from the job bank showed that the jobless are staying unemployed an average of 4.47 months.
