CHEERS: For a $15.6 million emergency federal grant program that will pay for unemployed New Jerseyans to do temporary work helping to clean up the shore in the wake of Superstorm Sandy. It’s an idea so logical that some government skeptics might scarcely believe it came from elected officials.
Out-of-work South Jerseyans who want to take advantage of the chance to work for a few weeks and earn up to $12,000 should call (877) 682-6238, email SandyHelp@dol.state.nj.us or visit jobs4jersey.com for more information…

This employment opportunity could be paired with courses on emergency management, health and safety and disaster preparedness from professionals in the area. Similar programs could be rolled out for other post-emergency situations. This could spark a new passion for the unemployed and people experiencing homelessness.
