Tips – Job Interview From A College Professor

Here are five tips to improve your interviewing skills from one of these professors:

1. Know the company.  Know everything about the industry in which it competes.  Know its history, know how it operates presently, and if it’s publicly traded, know the stock price on the morning of the interview.

2. Know what the position entails.  Do not ask your interviewer what you’ll be doing in the job for which you are interviewing.

3. The “tell me about yourself.”  Don’t ignore the question, but don’t waste time either.

4. Be prepared to discuss three traits or skills that distinguish you from everyone else.  For each, come up with a tangible experience that demonstrates it.

5. Be confident.  Be comfortable with who you are, and be comfortable with talking about yourself.  Make eye contact with your interviewer.  Be aware of your body language.
