As the nation celebrates Labor Day today, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) is offering as many as 300,000 local and overseas jobs in the simultaneous job and livelihood fairs the agency is holding in various areas.
Labor Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz said the nationwide job and livelihood fairs form part of the centerpiece event for the Labor Day celebration.
Baldoz said there would be a variety of job fairs, including mega job fair, city or municipal job fairs, youth job fair, BPO job fair, mini-job fair and even barangay job fairs.
Some labor officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity, admitted that the DOLE is having some difficulty encouraging new graduates and the unemployed to participate in the job fairs.
“There are so many young graduates and other unemployed who have been discouraged from looking for jobs because they believe there are no employment opportunities available to them,” a labor official said.
Many jobseekers, particularly the new graduates, could not easily get hired because they do not have the qualifications required by the market, the labor official added…
