House Minority Leader Brad Jones is pushing his own effort to reform the state’s unemployment-insurance system, saying he has little confidence that Gov. Deval Patrick’s hand-picked, Democrat-heavy commission is up to its task.
In a budget amendment now on its way to the Senate, Jones (R-North Reading) calls for an 11-member squad that would review all public- and private-sector jobless claims since 2008 — including an analysis of which were approved, which were rejected and which rulings were reversed — then recommend changes to the Legislature by the end of next year.
“I don’t have a lot of high hopes for the governor’s task force,” Jones said. “I honestly think this is more an attempt to look like you’re doing something and hope it takes enough time on the clock to where some other issue will come up.”…
