Ambulance company boss John Banbury isn’t happy with the GMB union.
“I wish they contacted Norvic before they ran inaccurate information,” he told us.
Banbury was referring to the union’s condemnation of Norvic’s £40 plus VAT fee that prospective employees pay to attend a job interview.
The GMB was particularly angry because Norvic, a private firm, has contracts to work for the public East of England Ambulance Service.
“GMB want to see the ‘job tax’ removed,” said the union’s Keri Webb.
“There is no justification for companies working for the public sector having a scale of charges for job seekers to be put on a register.
“It is an example of how the private sector, when involved in public services, puts making as much money as possible as its number one priority.”
Banbury responded: “Please note that the charge of £40 + VAT does not only cover the cost of the assessment, Norvic then pays for each person’s enhanced CRB check and uniform before they start working for us.”…
