Rwanda received US$ 626 million worth of investments from both foreign and local investors in 2011, a development that is expected to create about 9,060 new jobs.
According to Rwanda Development Board’s 2011 statistics, the jobs were made available by 6,000 investment projects that the agency registered as of December 31, 2011.
Agriculture, the country’s leading economic activity, has potential to generate most jobs with investment projects registered during the year worth US$ 78 million. The sector is projected to generate 2,087 jobs.
The manufacturing sector which accounted for US$ 44 million reportedly brought in 1,731 jobs while general service sector whose projects were worth US$ 32 million created some 1,623 jobs.
The tourism sector which attracted the largest amount of investment capital worth US$ 117 million is projected to create 1,393 jobs. ICT with an investment of US$ 110 million is creating employment for 164 people.
The booming construction and real estate sector registered investments worth US$ 75 million resulting into at least 803 new jobs.
Mining, energy and water had a combined investment US$ 109 million and jointly created employment opportunities for 81 people…
