Toyota plans to invest $45 million in its plant at Buffalo and add up to 80 employees to increase production of automatic transmissions, said Mike Lutz, general manager of Toyota Motor Manufacturing West Virginia.
“We are increasing our capacity again in two phases,” Lutz said. “We’ll increase in November 5,000 additional six speed automatic transmissions (per month) and then also increasing our capacity again by 5,000 more in July 2013.
“These two steps are in addition to the step we took last year when we announced the automatic transmission expansion in February,” Lutz said.
“We will invest another approximately $45 million and add up to 80 jobs over that three stages,” he said.
The increases will raise the Buffalo plant’s capacity from 400,000 to 520,000 automatic transmissions a year…
