Less than eight months after Research In Motion Ltd. cut 2,000 jobs, the BlackBerry maker is recruiting to fill nearly 600 positions.
Hundreds of hopefuls attended an employment fair Thursday at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre to apply for jobs the company says range from software development to hardware testing to technical support.
It said many of the applicants for the jobs, to be based primarily at RIM’s headquarters in Waterloo but also at a facility in Mississauga, are young and some are even ex-RIM employees.
“The technology business is cyclical,” Ali Rajah, the company’s global talent acquisition leader, told the CBC.
“RIM is growing considerably — few companies are growing at the same rate. We’re looking for talent, fresh ideas and innovative people to address that growth.”..
