Almost 80 unemployed people are chasing every job vacancy in parts of the country, compared with just one in cities where more work is available, new research shows.

Aberdeen was found to be the best city to find a job, with around one unemployment claimant per vacancy, compared with around 80 in Hull, said job search website Adzuna.

Reading, Cambridge, London and Milton Keynes all had fewer than two claimants per vacancy, while other areas with high ratios included Stoke-on-Trent (73), Sunderland (53), Southend (44) and the Wirral (40).
