Youth Unemployment Around the World – A Chart

Take a look at the chart below from our partner Statsta. It’s a look at youth unemployment in selected areas of the world. In the Middle East, the jobless rate is nearly 30%–higher than the U.S. at the height of the Great Depression. Numbers like those point to the great unfulfilled promises of the Arab Spring, a chronic, endless cycle of disillusionment and economic stagnation that will almost certainly rob another entire generation of their future and breed political unrest. It’s a problem that’s actually far more dangerous to the world than the rise of ISIS or disease outbreaks like Ebola–and likely far more intractable.
