Private-sector jobs growth strongest in five months
Private-sector hiring picked up in April, with employers adding the most jobs in five months, springing back after an unusually tough winter, according to data released Wednesday morning.
Employers added 220,000 private-sector jobs this month, up from 209,000 in March, Automatic Data Processing reported . Trends also show improvement: Over the quarter through April, private-sector employers added an average of 207,000 jobs per month, up from an average of 167,000 during the year-earlier period.
The trends signal a strengthening labor market, said Mark Zandi, chief economist of Moody’s Analytics, which prepares the report using ADP data.
“Employers are expanding payrolls across nearly all industries and company sizes,” Zandi said. “Job market prospects are steadily improving.”
