Helsinki, 27 March 2014. Steep losses forced Finnair to lay off about 680 workers and suspend several dozen aircraft orders. Finnair has started employee consultations with its personnel in administrative and support functions as well as cabin attendants.
“We still hope to achieve results in negotiations, outsourcing and redundancies are always a secondary option. The measures are part of the savings program started in 2011, which aims at breaking Finnair’s loss-making cycle,” says Pekka Vauramo, CEO of Finnair.
At the first stage, the company plans to layoff 140 employees and then another 800 throughout the year if the management cannot find a solution to revert the company’s weak financial situation.
