As of 1 March 2014 Belarus’ unemployment rate stood at 0.5% of the workforce. The figure was at 0.6% a year ago, BelTA learned from Oleg Tokun, head of the employment policy department of the Labor and Social Security Ministry.
In February 2014 the jobless rate stood intact in all the country’s regions. As of 1 March 2014 it was 0.7% in Brest, Vitebsk and Gomel oblasts, 0.6% in Grodno and Mogilev oblasts, 0.5% in Minsk Oblast and 0.2% in Minsk.
With this, the number of people registered with the country’s employment bodies is gradually on the rise this year. According to Oleg Tokun, the same trend is expected in the coming months. Such a situation is attributed, first of all, to the activation of people eager to find jobs and, secondly, to the modernization of production which entails workspace optimization. “The state employment bodies are ready to assist discharged employees both in employment and professional training,” Oleg Tokun said.
