Target Corp. is cutting jobs at its headquarters and around the globe following a weak holiday season and a costly data breach that affected up to 110 million customers.
Minneapolis-based Target (NYSE: TGT) will lay off 475 employees worldwide, the company told workers Wednesday. The company will leave another 700 positions unfilled.
“Target continually assesses our operating model to ensure we are well-positioned to adapt to changing business needs. … We believe these decisions, while difficult, are the right actions as we continue to focus on transforming our business. We will continue to invest in key business areas to strengthen our ability to compete and thrive well into the future,” the company said in a statement.
The cuts will not affect Canada, said spokeswoman Molly Snyder, who said the cuts represent “a very small percentage of our headquarters population.” No other details were disclosed.
