One in five working women quit their jobs after tying the knot. Statistics Korea on Wednesday said a total of 1.95 million working women quit their jobs because of pregnancy, childcare and other reasons.
Analysis of a survey conducted in April shows that women in their 30s made up the largest portion, demonstrating that women are leaving the workforce at the peak of their productivity.
A total of 1.08 million or 55 percent were in their 30s. Some 27 percent were in their 40s and 11 percent between 15 and 29.
The main reasons for quitting were marriage with 46 percent, followed by childcare (29 percent), pregnancy or childbirth (21 percent) and children’s education (four percent).
There was a 15.8 percent rise compared to the previous year in the number of women who said they quit their jobs to raise their kids. In contrast, the number of women who said they quit due to pregnancy or childbirth fell 13.6 percent.
