The most recent detailed report on veterans’ employment situation noted that younger vets had higher unemployment rates than their counterparts who had never served in the military. Another part of the explanation is the hurdles faced by vets. Some 28% of Gulf War era II veterans have a service-related disability; 9% are at least 60% disabled. Though the situation appears to be slowly improving from the depths of the recession, 246,000 veterans of the Gulf War era II were looking for a job in October.
