Energy chiefs at Npower were today urged to come clean over growing speculation they are about to outsource 2,000 call centre jobs.
Union leaders said staff were convinced an announcement that would see large swathes of front-line call centre work offshored to India was imminent. Sources claimed a deal was being lined up with Indian conglomerate Tata, which npower supplies across the UK.
Npower today admitted a “major review” of its sites was under way, but would only say that it was “exploring a range of options”. A meeting with union chiefs over the restructuring – dubbed ‘Project Regent’ – was due to take place today but was cancelled. A source said: “It is likely to be either the week commencing 11 November or the following week.”
A source told The Daily Telegraph: “An agreement has been reached in principle.”
The Unison trade union demanded that Npower – which is putting up bills by 10.4 per cent on December 1 – unveiled more information to reassure staff about the future of their employment.
