Florida Power & Light and its sister company, Nextera Energy Resources, plan to eliminate about 1,000 positions nationwide over the next two years.
The utility announced the cuts Wednesday. It includes 6.7 percent of the companies’ combined workforce.
An FPL spokesman said only about 160 workers will lose their jobs. The remaining cuts will come from the elimination of open positions, early retirement and normal attrition.
The first 80 workers are expected to be laid off next week, with 60 of those positions coming from Florida.
