New figures show people are staying in their jobs for longer, but not because the jobs market is in better shape.
In February this year, 18.2 per cent of people who were working had been with their current employer or in the same business for less than a year, data released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics on Wednesday showed.
A year earlier the corresponding figure was 19.9 per cent.
The proportion in short-term employment was even higher in February 2008, after a year of extremely strong employment growth before the global crisis knocked the stuffing out of the jobs market.
