Both boys and girls – just passed out of the campus or still pursuing their courses and preparing for competitive examinations are taking up part time jobs as receptionist, life insurance agents, telesales consultants, catering companies’ staff etc as they find it difficult to do a regular eight-nine hours job in an organization.
“We prefer to hire girls as they are more dedicated and matured than the young boys,” said Amit Jaiswal, project manager of a private insurance company. “Employing students saves us money as we do not have to pay them perks and fringe benefits.”
Supriya Lal, a graduate and native of Sitamarhi, said, “I stay in a hostel at Patna and my father supports me financially. I feel bad to ask my father for extra money but I do need it occasionally. I work for a ladies salon as mehndi designer and also with a catering company. They pay me on daily basis and there is no harm in earning some extra bucks.”
Similarly, Ankita Kumari and Nishi, who stay in hostel, have also joined a private insurance company. “Both of us are preparing for banking examinations. We individually earn Rs8,000 by working only five hours on five days a week,” said Ankita. However, both of them said their parents were unaware of their part-time jobs.
