Express Scripts Holding Co. has trimmed the staff at Franklin Lakes-based Medco Health Solutions Inc., its $29.1 billion acquisition, by roughly 20 percent in Bergen County since last April, laying off more than 400 employees.

This week St. Louis-based Express Scripts, which became the nation’s largest pharmacy benefits manager when it bought Medco, confirmed it was laying off 103 employees in Franklin Lakes and another 12 at its facility in Willingboro in South Jersey.

Those employees represent “a number of corporate support functions,” Express Scripts spokesman Brian Henry said in an email. Tuesday’s round of staff reductions was part of a wave of 332 layoffs across the country, which took place at more than 50 locations, Henry said.
