With 9 days left before extended unemployment benefits expire, there is no new from Washington on an extension. Last night, the Republicans pulled Plan B which did not included reauthorization of federal extended unemployment and there is no other legislation current pending.
If an agreement that includes the restoration of federal unemployment benefits isn’t reached, extended unemployment benefits (EUC) will expire on December 29, 2012. If an extension is passed, the Congressional Budget Office has outlined four options for continuing benefits which could be included in legislation extending benefits:
Without legislation that would provide federal extended unemployment benefits for 2013, there will be no unemployment compensation beyond the 26 week maximum state unemployment benefits next year. Millions of unemployed workers will lose unemployment effective 12/29/12 when the current legislation expires, if an extension is not passed.
