Taiwan – Hiring strongest in the world

Demands for workers by Taiwan employers in the fourth quarter are the strongest in the world, according to a survey by the Manpower Group released yesterday.

The survey found 38 percent of Taiwan employers plan to hire in the October-December period. After seasonal adjustment, the figure translated into a fourth-quarter employment outlook index of 32 percent, the highest in Asia and across the world, Manpower said.

The figure is a decline of 2 percent from the third quarter, yet still higher than the 27 percent and 18 percent for India and New Zealand, respectively the countries with the No. 2 and No. 3 rankings, Manpower said.

According to the poll, 58 percent of Taiwanese employers plan to keep their current workforce in the fourth quarter, a rise of 8 percent from the third. Four percent said they would reduce their workforce.

Commenting on Taiwan’s employment outlook, Liu Shao-ting, general manager of Manpower Taiwan, said demand for workers are especially strong in the service sector, with half of employers planning to higher in the fourth quarter.

The statement is matched by remarks by local jobs banks that the service sector is expected to hire more people than other parts of the economy amid the economic slowdown. According to them the service industry will play a critical role in driving economic growth in the fourth quarter…
