Australia – Attitude change needed to attract workers

A peak business group says employers will need to change their attitudes in order to attract good workers, as Australia braces for a major shortage of skilled workers.

Analysis by the Federal Department of Employment shows that 800,000 new workers will be needed over the next five years.

The biggest demand for jobs is expected to be in services sector and job opportunities will be limited for low-skilled workers.

The analysis shows Australia needs 829,000 new workers over the next five years and while the number of manufacturing jobs is set to decline, the services sector will continue to boom.

The areas of health care and social assistance are expected to have fastest jobs growth.
