According to provisional results of employment accounts, the number of persons in employment rose by 1.2% in June 2012 on June 2011. The growth rate thus was slightly lower than in the months February to May 2012 (+1.3%) and January 2012 (+1.4%). Compared with May 2012, the number of persons in employment was up by 27,000 or 0.1% in June 2012. After seasonal adjustment, that is, after the elimination of the usual seasonal fluctuations, there was an increase of 24,000 people (+0.1%).
According to results of the labour force survey, the number of unemployed was down by 12.9% in June 2012 on June 2011. It declined by 324,000 to 2.19 million. Compared with May 2012, the number of unemployed decreased by 133,000 people or 5.8%. When adjusted for seasonal and irregular effects, the number of unemployed declined by 14,600 to 2.27 million (–0.9%) compared with the previous month.
